Which metal-detecting brand has the best quality?

Question by emmetclark2: Which metal-detecting brand has the best quality?
I am considering buying a metal detector. although i have never used one before, i have seen many videos and am willing to continue this leisure activity for years to come! i looked on a website called kellycodetectors.com and they contain a wide variety of detectors. i saw a couple within my budget (preferably less than 0)
-garret ACE 350 detector for 0 (i know a bit over budget) with an 8.5 x 11 inch coil and the following accessories

• Finding Treasure State by State Guide
• Daypack with Exterior Pocket
• FiberComp Scoop/Digger
• 3 Pocket Coin Pouch
• 16 Function Knife
• Kellyco 6x Power Sliding Compact Magnifier
• Collectors Edition Treasure Hunting Magazine
• Trial Subscription to Lost Treasure Magazine
• Finders Log
and an Automax V4 Pinpointer with buy of Metal Detector

Next is a fisher f2 for 225 with an 8 inch coil and the following acsessories

• NEW! All-In-One Detector Carry Bag
• Pro Deluxe Lightweight Hi-Fi Headphones
• NEW! Sawtooth Gator Digger 1500 series
• Finding Treasure State by State Guide
• 15 Piece Tool Set
• 3 Pocket Coin Pouch
• NEW! Treasure Hunter Digger Sheath
• Kellyco 6x Power Sliding Compact Magnifier
• Trial Subscription to Lost Treasure Magazine
• Finders Log
• NEW! Pro Type Treasure Gloves
also includes the automax v4 pinpoint detector

Also for 225 is the teknetics alpha 2000 with an 8″ coil which includes

Stereo Headphones
• Non- Metallic Composite Digger
• 3 Pocket Coin Pouch
• 16 Function Knife
• Trial Subscription to Lost Treasure Magazine
• Finders Log
and an automax v4 pinpoint detector

the last detector that appealed to me was the

bounty hunter quick silver metal detector with an 8″ coil and

All-In-One Detector Carry Bag
• Pro Deluxe Lightweight Hi-Fi Headphones
• Finding Treasure State by State Guide
• Lockback Folding Knife
• 3 Pocket Coin Pouch
• Non- Metallic Composite Digger
• Trial Subscription to Lost Treasure Magazine
• Finders Log
along with a bount hunter pinpoint detector

all this information leaves me with four tough choices.
i personally have no thought what the excellent perks of these are besides the coil strength

if you could help me, that would be awesome.

Depends on how deep you are probing. You might need a shovel or you might need a tea spoon…..

Q&A: What is a comparable transistor to the bc 184b?

Question by danthemanbrunner: What is a comparable transistor to the bc 184b?
I am building the metal detector at http://www.easytreasure.co.uk/bfo.htm and buying the parts at digikey but the transistor suggested isn’t available in quantities I’d like to buy. Could you suggest a comparable part?

I have plenty of experience in constructing circuits for physics labs but not enough knowledge to easily find the part on my own.

Thanks!

Answer by tlbs101
The NTE cross reference is the NTE123A, which is a pretty general purpose NPN transistor.

The specs for the NTE123A read just like a 2N2222A. You can get those anywhere.

After studying the circuit… a 2N2222A will do, just fine.

Premise: There is a prototype car – garanteed unstealable… mind bender?

Question by Dont know nuthin: Premise: There is a prototype car – garanteed unstealable… mind bender?
Only one key will start the car and not even the manufacturer can make a copy of this key.

A thief steals the key, runs half a block and is immediately arrested by the cops. He is taken downtown. He is searched, x-rayed, even fed laxatives and his clothes are shredded but the key is not found.

They search a 2 block radius around the crime scene with metal detectors, bloodhound, shovels, psychics too. The key is not found.

The thief has no friends or family or accomplice. He is not an expert animal trainer. He can’t talk to animals. He isn’t a magician. And all he had on him was a key-ring with 2 keys – his house and car. they are both searched from top to bottom just in case (even though they are miles away) and nothing is found.

They interrogate the thief, place a tail on him and eventually lose interest.

About 10 days after the crime, The thief walks up to the car, pulls the key from his pocket and takes the car.

How did he do it?

First right answer wins!!
There is an answer and you guys are not even close… And if you want the solution, I expect mucho stars.

Caveat / hint: People who are not from North-America will find this virtually impossible to solve.
One of you guys is very close but in his/her answer my hint about non-Americans makes absolutely no sense. Try to keep it in mind, it might lead you in the right direction.

Q&A: What are the white particles coming out of my HV-AC?

Question by Alexander T: What are the white particles coming out of my HV-AC?
I have a 2009 Ford Escape XLT V6 4×4. About a month ago, I started having tiny white particles coming out of the vents (windshield, cabin, and leg) and they scatter on the dashboard and seats. When the car sits overnight, the particles come out like snow (or dandruff). If I’m driving around and turn the HV-AC off for 30 seconds or a minute, I get the particles again (much less though). What’s the deal? I’ve started coughing, and I’m not sure if the particles have anything to do with it.
Early phone “diagnostics” (dealership) suggest a cabin air filter replacement, but I noticed that it occurs when I have either the A/C on or the cool air running… I bought the car in February, and it wasn’t around with the heat.

Q&A: Does a metal detector, either hand-held/ stationary, will erase hard-disk drive contents?

Question by : Does a metal detector, either hand-held/ stationary, will erase hard-disk drive contents?

    Best answer:

    Answer by John B
I can’t say for sure, but since a metal detector’s magnetic field is not very strong and the disks are surrounded by a metal case, it is not likely that the contents will be erased.
